Baltic Bulk

The 26.5-metre diameter of one load to be transported presented new challenges to Nurminen Logistics when the company moved four former oil containers approximately a kilometre closer to the shore in Oulu’s Vihreäsaari. The job was exceptional because it involved transporting the 180-tonne containers simultaneously using two platforms, each more than 40 metres in length. The operation was planned over two months, and the move required several visits to the site as well as the widening of an existing road and the laying of about 500 metres’ worth of new road. In addition to the containers, in Oulu, Nurminen moved a 28-metre-high harbour crane to the site of its new owner. The crane was driven on two platforms to a barge and transported by water to its final location. Transporting the 180-tonne crane on a floating barge presented its own challenges.

According to the client

Good planning with Nurminen, suitable moving equipment and professional staff all enabled the oil containers to be moved with complete success.

According to Nurminen

Sometimes we had to slow down and even up the pace of one car with that of the other, but it all turned out well. The new road was soft, and we couldn’t drive too fast anyway because the mountings were trailing behind. In this sort of transportation job, getting the package there in once piece is more important than achieving a record time.
