Social responsibility
As was the tradition at John Nurminen Oy, Nurminen Logistics Plc is
also doing its share for Finland's environment and cultural heritage
by supporting the John Nurminen Foundation.
John Nurminen
Foundation’s Clean Baltic Sea project aims to accelerate the chemical
removal of phosphorus in St Petersburg. Modernisation of the city's
largest wastewater treatment plant was completed on 1 October 2007 with
the introduction of an efficient phosphorus removal method. The plant
purifies about half of St Petersburg's wastewaters. The new more
efficient purification method cuts the phosphorus load in the Baltic
Sea by about 300 tonnes a year, which is 5–8% of the entire load. In
the next phase – by March according to plans – phosphorus removal will
be stepped up further, reducing the load by an additional 260 tonnes a
year.
