Nurminen Logistics opens a diversified logistics centre at Hamina harbour

Nurminen Logistics is opening a diversified logistics centre at Hamina harbour. The centre offers clients an entire logistic value chain, including terminal services, rail transport, forwarding and documentation services, and special and heavy transport, as well as project, services.

The aim is to launch the new logistics centre in December 2009. Initially employing a staff of around 15, the centre includes a covered terminal space of approximately 16 000 square metres, while the outdoor space, intended for various project services and containers, consists of three hectares. Inside the terminal, there is a blind track and outside, there is a specific track for project transport. The logistics centre is to be built on the pre-existing terminal, which is being completely repaired and modernised. Construction work commences in July 2009 and the terminal will be deployed in December 2009.

Nurminen Logistics currently operates in Hamina harbour. However, the company's operations will be significantly strengthened and developed with the launch of the new logistics centre. “Our investment in Hamina is, particularly, in project transport, which Hamina's location is ideal for,” said Harri Vainikka, Nurminen Logistics’ Senior Vice President.

The investment needs of Russia and other CIS countries are growing and logistic services are therefore needed more than ever before. As well as a wide network of terminals, Nurminen Logistics has a range of equipment consisting of 1000 railway wagons and special transport equipment for the demanding road transport sector. The company has a strong presence not only at Hamina, but also in the harbours at Vuosaari and Kotka. The new logistics centre in Hamina will bring the company’s service supplies up to full strength.

“We believe in the functionality of this area and of the harbours at Hamina and Kotka.  Both harbours have their own particular strengths and by operating in both, we guarantee our clients the best possible service. With the new logistics centre, the service concepts underlying Nurminen Logistics’ presence in the harbours will complement the company’s objectives,” stated Vainikka.

Nurminen Logistics and the Sochi Olympics logistics

Russia will host the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The organising requires investments and Nurminen Logistics will be providing the logistic services required by the investors, as well as by Finnish and foreign companies. The company has already provided transport services for the Olympics, and in future will be responsible for dealing with transport usage, in particular at the new Hamina harbour logistics centre.
”The Sochi Olympics is a major project, and includes logistical challenges which we are ready to respond to with the new Nurminen Logistics centre in Hamina," said Harri Vainikka.
