John Nurminen transported the Mannerheim exhibition to the Finnish National Museum

The exhibition on the life of Mannerheim will be on in Helsinki from 6 July to 9 October 2005. Objects were loaned by dozens of Finnish museums, archives and private collections and by Russian lenders. John Nurminen Oy transported the works to Finland from the State Hermitage in St. Petersburg, where the objects were first displayed.

A comprehensive set of Mannerheim paraphernalia is on view at the exhibition Mannerheim - an Officer in the Tsar´s Russian Army, Marshal of Independent Finland. The objects range from a uniform to a military cap, small items from glasses to a cigarette holder, a saddle, photographs and a tableware set. Paintings, watercolours and drawings of Mannerheim are also on show.

In spring the exhibition was displayed at the State Hermitage in St Petersburg, from where it was transported to the Finnish National Museum by John Nurminen. John Nurminen´s art conservator also examined the loans in co-operation with the lenders´ conservators. Inspecting the works is an important part of the arrangements for an exhibition: it establishes that the objects remain unharmed all the time they are being handled.

The Mannerheim exhibition will be on at the Finnish National Museum in Helsinki until 9 October 2005, after which it will be displayed at the Mikkeli Art Museum and Turku Castle. The exhibition is produced by the Finnish St Petersburg Foundation and the State Hermitage in collaboration with Finnish and Russian specialists.
