Nurminen Logistics has 18,000 square metres of covered terminal space in Niirala, approximately 5,000 of which was destroyed by a fire in June 2009. The construction project to replace the burnt terminal space has started. The area of the new terminal will be 5,720 square metres.
The new terminal will be more practical than the old one due to its modern door solutions and more efficient space utilisation, for instance. One of the improvements is that from now on containers can be handled inside the terminal, thanks to the new door solutions. In addition to functionality, particular attention has been paid to safety.
The new terminal is due to be completed in October 2010. The main contractor is Karjalan Rakennuspalvelu Oy and the electrical contractor Lemminkäinen Talotekniikka Oy. The structural plans have been designed by Karrak Oy and the electrical plans by Eskelinen Oy. The construction project provides jobs for 10–15 people.
