Nurminen Logistics Plc      Press Release 16 April 2026

In 2026, Nurminen Logistics celebrates its 140-year history by growing and becoming more international. In recent years, the company has expanded to Sweden and Central Europe and opened a direct freight train connection between Italy and Sweden, offering a competitive and low-emission alternative to road transport.

The company’s roots date back to 1886, when farmer John Nurminen opened a general store in Rauma. The company quickly expanded its operations to include maritime transport and, already in the early 1900s, the company operated its own fleet in international traffic. During the First World War, Nurminen became Finland’s largest forwarding business. Over the decades, the company has been involved in key transformations in the logistics industry and has developed decisively towards its current role as a railway and multimodal logistics operator.

Today, Nurminen Logistics is a Finnish listed company that offers comprehensive logistics solutions, especially for rail and multimodal transport, in the European and Asian markets.

“Nurminen Logistics has come a long way from being a Finnish family-owned company to becoming a modern, international logistics operator. Our 140-year history is built on bold launches, open-minded growth and strong customer understanding. We are proud of our history and, relying on our experience, we will continue our determined growth in the international market”, says Olli Pohjanvirta, President and CEO of Nurminen Logistics.

The company’s growth is tangibly reflected in new launches, such as a direct freight train connection between northern Italy and Sweden. The fully electrified connection brings an alternative to the market at a time when logistics costs, emissions pressure and rising fuel prices are challenging European trade and industry. The railway route connects the crucial production areas in northern Italy directly to the Swedish market, while providing an efficient connection to the entire Nordic region.

“Our current customer base requires transport solutions that are reliable, cost-effective and low-emission at the same time. We take care of the entire transport chain from door to door with one contact and offer a multimodal alternative that can truly challenge road transport in terms of both price and performance”, says Pohjanvirta.

Nurminen Logistics is an internationally renowned specialist in railway logistics, and the company’s services cover the key markets in Europe, Asia and the Baltic Sea region. Strong expertise, own terminals and an extensive partner network enable reliable and efficient transports for different customer needs.

To celebrate the anniversary year, Nurminen Logistics will also introduce its story and developments through the renewed website and an anniversary documentary video. They illustrate the company’s journey from its historical roots towards international logistics expertise and show how its current growth and new solutions are built on the long experience and continuous renewal.

“Our task is to ensure that our customers’ supply chains continue to run smoothly in the future. Our long history gives us a strong foundation, but our competitiveness is built on the ability to renew, develop our international network and build more sustainable logistics”, says Pohjanvirta.
